As part of our rewards and recognition programme, staff are encouraged to nominate their peers for a Star Award to recognise when they have gone the “extra mile”.
There are many nominations received every month and this year we introduced an additional element to the programme. Over the past 12 months we have had over 250 nominations; these were reviewed by members of our Employee Forum and shortlisted to 5 finalists for 7 categories which reflect our company shared values.
Nominations were anonymised and all staff were invited to vote for the one they felt deserved a special “Star of Excellence” Award. Voting closed on Sunday and we are proud to announce the winners:
Clinical Lead in our Access to Care team, Lynn (pictured above with members of her team and Carole Williams our Director or Nursing), developed a very comprehensive set of clinical competencies for staff to work towards. The quality of these competencies were excellent and provided real structure to our training programme, and evidenced to the CQC that we hit the various quality standards necessary in the healthcare sector.
Telecare Call Advisor Natalie received a call in our monitoring centre from someone who had fallen. Natalie was told the service user was ok and there was no problem. To be safe, Natalie sent a neighbour round to check on her. It turned out they were not OK. An ambulance was called and later the service user’s son rang in and informed us his mother had actually had a heart attack and is now getting a pacemaker fitted! He was really impressed with the extra mile Natalie went and the service his mother received. At least 3 new customers have taken our service based on his recommendation about this incident.
When Nurse Practitioner Mel was working a night shift at Trowbridge Community Hospital, a patient presented via the Minor Injuries Unit in a state of collapse, and was later diagnosed with sepsis, atrial fibrillation and pulmonary oedema. Throughout this patient’s admission in the department Mel led the team in a really calm and professional way. This patient owed her subsequent recovery to Mel's skill and prompt action that night.
Telecare Call Advisor Sam has received excellent feedback from service users after handling a couple of challenging Mobile Telecare calls. As a result our partner Oysta Technology wanted to film an interview with Sam to hear about her call handling experience. Sam was calm, confident, caring and knowledgeable during the interview and her professional attitude and manner showed what a trusted asset she is to the team.
Nurse Practitioner Lottie has a wonderful and impressive manner with her patients. Many patients tell us after their consultation how pleased they are. Just recently comments include 'she is so caring', 'she really knows her stuff', 'what a lovely lady' and ‘she is really impressive'.
Nurse Practitioner, Lynne, is dedicated to her role, and is always cheerful and a pleasure to work with. She receives countless numbers of verbal compliments from patients after they have been assessed/treated by her. She is very hard working, always goes the extra mile to help out.
Nikki was working in our Telecare Alarm Monitoring Centre and went above and beyond to help other team members deal with a very complex and sensitive issue. This helped the service user deal with a very stressful time while freeing up the team to give support to other service users needing help. Nikki was no longer on shift but was happy to stay on to support the team. A true team player.
We are extremely proud of the team that works here, many of whom regularly go the extra mile without recognition. It is a real privilege to work with such a highly dedicated and committed team and we look forward to sharing details of more nominations for our Stars next year.
A very big well done to everyone who was nominated this year, and thank you to those who took the time to submit the nominations. We think you do a great job, and it’s great for staff to have the recognition of their peers with these Awards.
