28th February 2011

TELEHEALTH SOLUTIONS (THSL), a leading provider of technology and services for remote patient management announced today that it has been acquired by MOONRAY HEALTHCARE. The deal will see substantial new funding which allow THSL to build a clinical support centre offering access to technology and specialist nursing staff to patients with non-critical monitoring requirements, such as diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, mental health problems and cardiology conditions and including patients discharged early from hospital or requiring assisted living. The combination of screening, regular contact and a high-risk response service gives patients peace of mind and reduces admissions to hospital.

“This really is a win-win model”, said Jeremy Cummin, THSL’s executive chairman, “The patient feels more in control with far more regular contact and the health service saves money whilst offering a better service. We hope that GPs everywhere will see the benefit of offering a service like this funded entirely by savings.”

To illustrate the scale of the gains that can be achieved, a study by the University of Aberdeen found that Telehealth Solutions’ HomePods brought about a 91% reduction in unplanned hospital admissions and an 80% reduction in A&E attendance1, while a paper in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine suggested the SurgeryPod touchscreen kiosk could save around twenty hours of GP and nurse time a week for an average-sized practice2.

Moonray Healthcare’s CEO Tim Clover believes that THSL could offer a radical new model of care for up to two million patients in the UK saving the NHS hundreds of millions pounds annually. Moonray Healthcare also believes that the model is scalable internationally and is preparing a rollout in further countries through acquisitions and organic growth.

“Telehealth is a large part of the future for healthcare”, said Mr. Clover, “It is critical that healthcare providers make continuous improvements in productivity as the growing number of patients with age-related illnesses will require treatment without a corresponding increase in the overall cost but with an improved quality of care. We have been very impressed with the approach taken by THSL which is why we have made this strategic investment. Our goal is to establish Telehealth Solutions as a significant participant in the global market”
